Residential Curbside Recycling Program
The City of Warren, under Ordinance No. 1514, supplies each household with containers for the collection of recyclable materials. The materials listed below will only be collected from these or otherwise approved containers. The recyclables must be sorted as noted below - if the items are not sorted, they will not be collected. More information on recycling is detailed in the annual recycling brochure.

MATERIALS TO BE RECYCLED:
PLASTIC, GLASS, ALUMINUM, AND TIN MAY BE CO-MINGLED AND PLACED AT THE CURBSIDE
PLASTICS #1 AND #2: Common items are soft drink bottles, milk jugs, and detergent bottles. Discard the cap, rinse, and crush the container.
PLASTICS #3 THROUGH 7 - NEW IN 2013: Common items are ketchup bottles, syrup bottles, cooking oil bottles, disposable cups, margarine tubs, mouthwash bottles, and medicine bottles. Discard the cap, empty, rinse, and crush the container.
ALUMINUM, TIN, STEEL, AND BI-METALLIC CANS: Common items are soup, vegetable, fruit, pop, and beer cans. All cans should be rinsed. Crushing the cans will save space in the container.

NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINE, CATALOGS, AND CORRUGATED CARDBOARD ARE TO BE PLACED IN THE RECTANGULAR BIN WITH THE LID ON
NEWSPAPERS AND MAGAZINES: Common items are newspapers, magazines, glossy ads, phone books, and catalogs. Remove address labels and place all items in the rectangular container with lid - all items must be dry.
CARDBOARD: Double-walled cardboard, shipping boxes, and clean pizza boxes (place any portion of the box that is greasy or has toppings stuck to it in your normal trash). Place in rectangular container with lid - all items must be dry.
WHY RECYCLE?
-
Recycling reduces the need for landfilling and incineration
-
Recycling saves energy
-
Recycling decreases emissions of greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change
-
Recycling helps sustain the environment for future generations. Instead of leaving a depleted natural resource base and more waste in landfills, we can leave a stronger economy and less global warming by recognizing the value of recycling and passing this knowledge on to our children.
- An Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study found that recycling and reuse activities in the Untied States accounts for 681,000 jobs and $37.8 billion in wages.
HOW TO RECYCLE ITEMS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CITY'S CURBSIDE PROGRAM
There are many items that are recyclable even though they are not included in the City's Curbside Recycling Program. For information on how and where to recycle such items, visit the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Recycling in Pennsylvania web page.
